Great reel,
This reel has a very smooth drag, the same drag as the Penn Conquer. The large spool is great for large amounts of line, mono or braid. Also the spool comes with backing so it is ready for braided line. I have recommended this reel to several friends who have bought it and they were not disappointed. If you were thinking about a Penn SSg or SSm, I would say get the Penn Battle instead.

I got this reel when it first came out and have put some hours on it.I fish in the salt water at least 4 times a week so the reel does show some signs of wear and tear but overall it has held up very well. I really like the smooth drag and the spool with the rubber on it so if you are using braid it wont start slipping. Pair it with an Ugly Stick intercoastal and it is a great tool to get the reds on the flats or battle the big drum at the bridges. Great reel and well worth the price. Hope this review helped.

The Penn Battle may be my new favorite reel, certainly the best for the money. I have Shimanos that cost twice what this reel cost and although they are a little lighter than the Penn I find myself reaching for this reel more often. The drag on this reel is great and with just a simple freshwater spray at the end of the day it is showing no effects of being out in the Florida saltwater conditions it’s seen. I’m putting another one on my wish list.
